Should I feel bad? relationship?

My girlfriend has been talking to a guy that lives in our same state. On facebook I found his name in the "You might know this person" column on the right. I sent him a message, because i just knew his first name. The message asked if he knew my girlfriend because I was curious as to whether it was him. He replied "no" and the next day my gf called me. Turns out it was him and he was upset that I asked him. So before he told my girlfriend that I had messaged him they were making plans to hang out because he'd be in town for one day. The one day happens to be the day of our anniversary (2 years 3 months) and we had talked about making plans that day. My girlfriend was mad at me for sending him a message and so I said i wouldn't mind if they hung out. I figured i could show i trusted her by letting her meet him. Later the guy says he doesnt want to hangout because he doesn't want to deal with drama. I feel bad for being nosey but should i feel bad for him canceling on my gf or suspicious
