Can I use wireless router instead of nic card to connect to internet?

I think I am dreaming, but I would like to use my linksys wrtg54 router to catch my other wireless signal then connect my upstairs computer to the router with a cable...basically I want the (second) router to act like a wireless nic. Seems like this would have a simple software solution, but I can't find anyone out there that has done this.
