Amp will NOT turn on, am I missing something?

okay i was installing some subs in my friends 05 altima. we used 10-gauge wire for the positive and ground. The ground was connected to a bolt in the trunk against the body and the postiive was connected straight to the battery (no in-line fuse). installed a line out converter to the stock head unit for RCA output. the amp turned on earlier before we installed it just to see if it would turn on and it did. i tried putting the remote wire from the + to the REM so it would automatically turn on but none of the lights would come on. the fuse on the amp is fine i just dont know anything i can do next to get these subs working.. setup: 1 12" Rockford fosgate p2 and a sound storm F260.5.
