Was I right because I can't seem to let this go?

After school, I waited for my dad to pick me up. I always wait for him at this one street so I crossed from the street in front of my school to get to the other side. There are cars coming both ways, and once it was clear, I was crossed. All of a sudden, this truck sped by almost hitting me and honked at me at least 4 times a little while before I reached the pavement. I got scared but got out of his way and nearly fell. I looked back to get a glimpse and I think he was a young adult but wasn't mad. I thought pedestrians had the right of way? I won't start driving yet but I'm pretty sure it's just common sense to let somebody cross the street, right? Was he just impatient or am I not allowed to cross where there's a crosswalk? I know it's not a big deal, but I had a REALLY bad day at school, and that incident seemed to just sum it up as even worse.
